How Rote Learning will be helpful for SSC GK Section 2018

Staff Selection Commission conducts many exams to fill various posts of government departments. In these exams mainly four to five sections are asked i.e. Maths, English, Reasoning, General Knowledge and Subject specific knowledge. Out of these sections, General Knowledge section is asked in almost all the exams. The syllabus for this section may vary from one exam to another. The syllabus is quite vast for General Knowledge section. Through this article we are sharing a wonderful technique to learn this section.

The General Knowledge section includes basic and advanced knowledge of many fields. The candidates are expected to possess knowledge of all fields. The candidates usually opt subject specific courses in graduation and post-graduation. There are high chances that the candidates may face difficulty in some fields because of lack of interest. In such cases it becomes very difficult to memorise facts and figures of that particular field. This problem can be solved with rote learning.
First understand what Rote Learning is? This is a technique to memorise concepts, facts, formulas, theorems, tables etc. with repetition of item. There are many advantages and disadvantages of this technique. The important ones are given below: –

Advantages of Rote Learning: –

  • It helps in learning subject quickly.
  • In early school times it helps in building foundational knowledge for kids.
  • It helps in memorising figures which are used in daily basis work at work for professionals.

Disadvantages of Rote Learning:-

  • It develops habit of learning things without logics.
  • It may hamper creativity on long run.

This technique can be used for memorizing topics of General Knowledge for SSC CGL recruitment exam in short time. There are various sub sections which can be memorized using various tools of this technique. Each section is discussed below:-

Science: – In this sub section we can divide topics in certain categories and cover these categories using rote learning techniques:-

Discoveries and inventions: – The first and foremost step is to write down all important discoveries and inventions at one place. Don’t make a large list; keep only those discoveries and inventions which have been asked in the previous exams of SSC and other state exams. Keep on revising this list on a regular period. These continuous revisions will help in persisting the list in your subconscious mind and you will be able to recall it in exam

Important rules and Theories: – There are many important rules and theories which can be asked in exams. The candidates should prepare their own hand written notes on it, which includes only previously asked questions. The regular revisions will help in memorising content.

Essential elements and deficiency disease: – These types of questions are very common in SSC exams. The list is vast but the candidates should focus on important ones. The candidates other than science background may find this type of questions very boring. The repetitive revisions will help in retaining content. For better understandings the candidates can take help of YouTube as visual content lasts for longer duration.

History: – This sub section is considered hard to learn because of monotonous content. The candidate should apply divide and conquer method in this topic. The comprehensive list with tips and techniques is given below:-

Dates and Events: – In many exams dates of important events are asked. There are certain wars and history timelines which can be asked in exam. While revising such content you should try to visualise things in your subconscious mind. The associated memory does wonders in retaining such content.

Important regimes and administrative reforms: – The candidates are advised to make their own handwritten notes, which includes timeline of famous regimes. Try to relate reforms so that you can set a better picture in your mind. If you time permits try to watch sequels on famous regimes.

Famous revolutions: – The administrative changes invite friction from followers. In history there are many revolutions which changed society and shaped the rules. There are certain revolutions which are very important and asked in many exams. The candidates should make a list and keep on revising.

Geography: – There are certain things which are repeated in exams. The candidates should follow certain tips to memorize it:-

Rivers and Mountains: – There are certain famous rivers and mountains, which are asked in exams. The candidates should take Indian map and draw important rivers on it. This technique helps in visualising things. Also make notes on famous rivers, which include origin, cities covered and mouth of river.

Climates of India: – Make a list of Indian climates and its features. The questions can be asked on wind patterns, types of agriculture, types of soil etc. The content is vast but focus mainly on that questions which are asked in previous exams. Take help of maps for visualisation.

Economics: – There are various types of economies, which have its own merits and demerits. The comparative analysis may help in better understanding and retention of content. There are certain topics which are repeated in exam, the candidates should prepare point wise notes. This help in retaining important content in mind. In past years the Indian Economy has changed a lot. You should focus on all recent changes and new trends in economy. Your own notes and regular revisions is the key to memorize in rote learning.

Polity: – The world has gone through various political changes, since human civilization started. The questions are asked based on various departments, government bodies, posts and their powers. You should make your own handwritten notes and cover all important aspects. The regular revision will be able to do wonders.
