First Face Transplant Patient passes away

  • A Frenchwoman Isabelle Dinoire, who made the world’s first partial face transplant, has passes away.
  • She has died more than a decade after a complex and daring operation that set the stage for dozens of similar transplants worldwide.
  • She was given a new nose, chin and lips in a groundbreaking, 15-hour operation in 2005.

Cauvery Water releases in Karnataka

  • Releases of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu has been decided by Karnataka Government.
  • A pronouncement has been taken to release water as directed by the apex court.
  • Tamil Nadu had moved court after Karnataka released far less water this year than was decided

J Satyanarayana- New UIDAI Chief

  • The Appointments Committee of Cabinet appointed Former IAS officer J Satyanarayana as new part-time chairperson of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
  • The post has been laying vacant following resignation of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.

$1 billion to raise by SBI

  • $1 billion will be raised by State Bank of India (SBI) through a sale of dollar-denominated perpetual bonds to foreign investors.
  • These bonds technically called AT1 or additional tier-I bonds & carry no maturity date.
  • It will become the first Indian lender to sell such securities overseas.

RBI to introduce Rs 10k cr via Bond Purchase

  • The Reserve Bank will conduct open market operations (OMO) to acquire government bonds to introduce liquidity of Rs 10,000 crore.
  • As part of the OMOs, RBI will purchase government securities maturing in 2017.
  • OMOs are the market operations conducted by RBI by way of sale or purchase of government securities.
  • Its objective is to adjust rupee liquidity conditions in the market on a durable basis.

 Retirement Announces by Abhinav Bindra

  • Abhinav Bindra, India ace Shooter has officially announced his retirement.
  • Bindra nearly missed a second Olympic medal by a whisker and came fourth in Rio Olympics 2016.
  • He was India’s one and only individual gold medalist at the games.
  • He was awarded with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award &  Padma Bhushan Award.

Paralympics Games Begun in Rio, Brazil

  • The Rio 2016 Paralympics Games begun in Rio, Brazil. Around 4,350 athletes from more than 160 countries will compete in 22 different sports. Of the total number of athletes set to take part, approximately 1,650 will be women. Canoe and triathlon will be included in the Games for the first time in Rio. The Indian contingent, largest-ever from the country, comprises of 18 athletes.

  • In the top educational institutions in the world India’s seven institutes hold in top 400 spot.
  • Seven According to ‘QS World University Rankings ,Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) hold on to the top spot.
  • Indian Institute of Science ranked at 152 in the list.
  • Other Indian universities are the IITs — Delhi (185), Bombay (219), Madras (249), Kanpur (302), Kharagpur (313) & Roorkee (399).

ASEAN Summit Begins in Laos

  • In Laos’s capital Vientiane, the 28th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit began.
  • The occasion was opened by Laos President Bounnhang Vorachith.
  • During the summit, the world leaders will review the progress of implementation of the ASEAN Community Blueprints 2025.
